Only 1 Day and a few Hours Away! #GivingTuesday

'Tis the Season!
Black Friday . . .
Small Business Saturday . . .
Cyber Monday . . . and#GivingTuesday!

 And the end of the
year tax donations!

Wow! November and December are quite busy indeed. Our adrenaline begins to rise: Thanksgiving, American Indian Heritage Day, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, The Prophet's Birthday, December Solstice and so many other holidays, celebrations and traditions abound! So much to do as we race too hear the clocks strike Happy New Year!

Meanwhile, as you prepare, just in case you are not familiar with a few of the observances and you just cannot go on without discovering all the great special treats that life offers; simply conduct a search on observances and a time line will unfold.

What a season it is -- every year!

An observance that I've just discovered -- #GivingTuesday.  Why haven't I seen this growing popular event before today? Perhaps because my e-mail in box is beginning to fill up with this catchy tag! What a novel idea! Not that some folks already engage in giving back year-round to thousands of non-profits, and give weekly offerings to church, or donate to their favorite charity. Not to mention, there are thousands of special causes for the immediate need, a.k.a. crowdfunding.

Just in case you are not up to speed, #GivingTuesday is a day set aside to "give back."  According to www.givingtuesday.org, the day is a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. The organization continues to suggest that "it’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity."

The #GivingTuesday concept is similar to that popular fund raising initiative that captured the attention of people the world over, 'Ice Bucket' . . . Amazing results. Here are a few stats . . . According to an article found in the Washington Post (2014), "The ALS Association, a nonprofit that raises funds to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease reported that donations to the organization have more than spiked — they’ve exploded. Between July 29 and Aug. 17, more than $13 million flooded the organization’s coffers, compared with $1.7 million during the same period last year."

An "observance" I've made about crowdfund raising efforts . . . Most causes have been created to touch the tenderest hearts or are driven by anxiety or fear . . . $140K Raised for Musicians After Tragic Accident; $85K Raised for Victim of Paris Attacks; Julia, who has brain Cancer, has raised over $28K for her medical bills; Mara has raised over $12K to continue chasing her Olympic dreams; Lucy's community is rallying to make her home wheelchair accessible.

I surmise that most causes in our world today are very worthy of our attention. There are certainly so many debilitating diseases, wars, tragedies and so many unusual happenings which give cause to citizens to pitch in and support our neighbor, friends and family. Case in point. My beloved nephew, Cameron and I sought an opportunity to do something a bit different this Thanksgiving, albeit, our family's foundation was all about helping others in need, but, we soon discovered, as we extended our hand to offer support, we were turned away. The volunteer pool was full.

There's a growing trend to do something with our time, talents and most important, our treasures. This is the reason I've decided to join the #GivingTuesday trend and jump in with both feet, hands with all that I have!

So, if you've been keeping track of my initiative via  . . .
